CAE Phrasal Verb: Wipe Out

Scientists believe that because of human action over 20 species of plant or animal are WIPED OUT from the planet every year.

The Bison in North Amercia was nearly WIPED OUT in the nineteenth century by over hunting by European settlers. From a population of over 60 million in 1798, it was down to only 541 in 1889.

Meaning

To cause something (e.g. a type of animal) to become extinct.
